As a hairdresser I am inspired and motivated daily by the girls around me in my work space. These girls are constantly uplifting and positive about any and every situation, we are always all bouncing off each other daily, sharing new techniques, results and formulas which push each and every one of us to try new things and never loose that passion and creativity
The Hair Academy has truly prepared me for any real life scenarios as they keep everything raw and real, also having the opportunity to be able to practice what we do on every day people that walk into the space is a huge advantage. You never know what could walk through the door, the academy has helped with many different ways on how you handle each situation. – Porsha Henderson

What originally inspired you to pursue a career in hairdressing?
I had always wanted to be a hairdresser since I was a little girl and ever since I started at the salon space my passion is only growing. Attending the academy has also been a super smooth sailing journey and all educators there have been nothing but the best to help guide me through any hurdles throughout my journey.
Can you share a bit about your daily routine as a hairdressing apprentice?
I’m constantly learning something new everyday and will continue to do so throughout my career, my day begins arriving to work early to have a team pow wow to then start to prepare for the day into consistent clients throughout my work day, techniques I have learnt and absolutely love consists of lots of lived in blondes and creating a seamless grow out for more of a low maintenance and long lasting colour.
What aspects of your education do you find most beneficial for your development as a hairdresser?
I do the majority of my theory when I have a moment in the salon otherwise I complete this in spare time so that I can utilise my time having hands on training as much as possible. Sometimes it can be hard keeping up and the academy are always super accommodating and always help through any issues when I am in the academy salon space.
What is a challenge have you encountered, learnt from and as a result become a better hairdresser.
One that will always stick with me is if a client isn’t extremely happy with the overall result – as I am such a people pleaser, I used to take this extremely personally and also take it home with me. I am still learning that it is more than okay for adjustments to be made to the final colour to ensure happiness on both ends of the desired result. This should never be taken as a bad thing because it will only make you better in the future to be able to overcome that and the humbling moments are always going to keep you on the road to success.
