Certificate III In Hairdressing Apprenticeship

The industry standard Certificate III in Hairdressing taught through our unique approach using a blend of hands-on practical and online learning to achieve better outcomes for students. The course is a balanced and comprehensive approach to mastering the art of hairdressing, alongside the training you receive from your salon.

Hairdressing Fundamentals

Our custom designed online courses are an additional learning tool designed to equip you with essential skills and knowledge required to become a hairdresser. This online fundamentals course will be a great supplementary learning tool to enable you to learn the basic skills in cutting, styling, colouring and bleaching as well as any advanced techniques you may be interested in. This additional tool at your disposal will give you the skills and confidence needed to start working on real clients.

Hair & Barber Community

Learn through direct access to workshops, live masterclasses and access a huge library of online lessons, video and training tools. As a resource these workshops, custom videos and training tools allow you to learn at your pace through watching trainers and industry professionals demonstrate skills.

Certificate III in Hairdressing

Course Timeframe – 3 years Full Time

The Certificate III in Hairdressing Apprenticeship course is a balanced and comprehensive approach to mastering the art of hairdressing with students learning from a structured program that covers everything from hair structure, cutting techniques, client communication, styling, colour, bleaching and business essentials. Our apprenticeship training is available both face to face at your salon, as well as full training access in our academy locations and online.

Time Investment

1 day per week – Fundamentals – Apprentices are invited in to the Academies to master a skill or complete assessments
1 day per month face-to-face training in the apprentice salon (negotiable and dependant on whether full-time/part time or school-based)
4 hours online learning per week

Steps to getting an apprenticeship started:

Step 1 – Find an employer who’s willing to take you on. Apprenticeships involve training from both an employer and a training provider (which is us).

Step 2 – Complete your training contract with an Apprentice Connect Australia Provider. Unsure what this is? Contact us and we can get you in touch with the correct people.

Step 3 – When completing your training contract, Make sure you select The Hair Academy Australia as your Registered Training Provider.

Step 4 – Your apprenticeship is officially underway.

A modern approach to hairdressing education.

Stage 1 - Introduction to Hairdressing + Technique:

The first stage is to determine what you and your salon want you to concentrate on first and to plan your training plan so you know exactly what units will be completing and in what order throughout your apprenticeship. This is make you as motivated in the salon and as productive as possible.

To start with you will generally practice hairdressing techniques on a mannequin head. You will learn how to handle hair, sectioning, and how to correctly manage hair. You will be introduced to hairdressing tools, how they work, how to hold them and how to correctly use them when dealing with a whole range of difference hair types. This stage will set you up with the skills and understanding to move onto the salon floor with confidence.

Stage 2 - Hair Cutting, Styling, Colouring and Bleaching in a Hairdressing Salon

The second stage is taking all your practice techniques and working on real clients. Our training team will guide you and support you as you gain confidence cutting, styling, colouring and bleaching hair. Trainers will also do live demonstrations to allow you to learn and ask questions around specific hairdressing technique and styling. There is no better way to learn then through hands-on salon experience with real clients. With this salon experience and the training from our training experts you can’t fail to progress!

Stage 3 - Advanced Hairdressing Technique and Skills:

The third stage allows you to focus on advanced techniques, refining your skills and learning finishing techniques. You will learn how to achieve specific assessments needed to prove your competence in the certificate III qualification and your trainers will assess the quality of your hairdressing skills and knowledge and help you reach certification. This stage will make sure you are industry ready to work as a qualified hairdresser. At the stage we also work on your professional hairing portfolio.

Stage 4 - Certification:

To reach certification you will need to complete all technique and theory to The Hair Academy standards, have trainer sign off on all working haircuts, techniques and skills, and be able to show your are competent and confident in you ability. Our standard is to train you so that you can finish the course and salon ready. It takes dedication, effort and hard work.

Live Cutting, Styling, Colouring and Bleaching

The Hair Academy has salon campuses located on the Gold Coast, Brisbane and Sydney. These locations are all live Salons where students learn to cut, colour, style and bleach on real customers and learn to work in a live salon environment supervised by our training team. All of our students get the real hairdressing experience – and sweeping the floor.

Fundamentals and Advanced Online Learning

Our online learning platform allows students to access online lessons and video, to help them understand and practice through watching trainers and industry professionals work. All full time students receive access to The Hair Academy online community.
